OCEAN COLOR AND COASTAL OCEANOGRAPHY LABORATORY (OCCO)

The Ocean Color and Coastal Oceanography Laboratory (OCCO Lab) explores the interactions between ocean physics, climate change, and coastal ecosystems primarily through quantitative modelling, remote sensing, and GIS techniques. OCCO Lab also actively contributes to science communication in the Philippines by developing products that equip ordinary Filipinos with knowledge of climate resilience and our marine resources.

Principal Investigator

Laura T. David, Ph.D.

Dr. David is a Professor and Director of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI). Recognized as one of the country’s pioneers in Ocean Remote Sensing, her research includes using remote sensing and numerical modelling to explore how ocean physics influences the distribution and state of ocean flora and fauna. Her expertise is being tapped regionally to assist in matters related to climate change vulnerability and adaptation. She is currently the Chair of the CHED Technical Committee in Marine Science, a member of the National Panel of Technical Experts of the Climate Change Commission, and a member of the International Scientific Steering Committee of GEO Blue Planet and Future Earth Coasts.
